Inaugural Compassion Response Team Ethiopia Trip

We have seen big miracles in these past six months and are excited to announce our first trip to Ethiopia!  Six individuals will travel to Sululta, Ethiopia just outside the capital city of Addis Ababa.  We were able to participate in contributing the funds necessary to finish construction of the new orphanage and get the kids moved into the new facility. This allows a larger percentage of the current budget to be committed to nutritional support. The basic structural work has been completed, and the staff and children have literally seen this dream become a reality.

The purpose of our trip is to provide the orphanage with basic medical supplies and set up a small medical clinic in a mud house that sits on their property. We will medically screen the kids and treat what we can in the short time that we are there.  We will educate that staff in basic medical care and in the use of basic medicines that were previously unavailable to them.  Electricity has not yet been obtained and the staff is praying for a generator to use until the power can finally be established.  We also hope to help in planting a garden with fresh vegetables for the children and staff, as well as spending some quality time with the children and pouring every ounce of love we have over them.

We want to recognize Southwest Medical Aid in Tucson, AZ (http://www.salvatorians.com/sma/default.htm) as our wonderful partner in this endeavor.  They have provided us with an enormous amount of medical supplies to take to Ethiopia.  They have been so supportive and generous and we can’t thank them enough!  This is truly an amazing organization and we encourage you to support them in the future!

Painting Extravaganza at Southwest Medical Aid

Saturday, June 13, 2009

We will be heading down to Tucson, road-trip style, on June 13 to finish off the painting project that we began in April.  We had so much fun the first time and hope that some of you can join us for the second excursion.  The best part of the last trip was the opportunity to see how this AMAZING organization works.

We will be heading down early on Saturday, June 13, finishing off the painting, and then heading home.  We will meet at the Gateway Chick-Fil-A on McDowell and 99th Ave at 7 am.  We'll head back as soon as we are done painting.  It's 18 and up only because of the type of supplies they store (medications, needles, surgical equipment, etc).  Spread the word!!

How can one person make a difference?

  • Donate financially - 100% of the funds earned go directly toward ending the oppression of poverty both locally and globally. When funds are provided directly to those in need, a little goes a long way in the developing world
  • Donate canned goods or non-perishable foods to be given to the local partner of Feeding America and the End Hunger network
  • Mention our cause on your website, blog , Facebook or MySpace

"Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter - when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard." Isaiah 58: 6-8
