The Vision

There is no question that America is a blessed nation. Consider the fact that we often spend as much on a single cup of coffee as some people in the developing world survive on for two days. The danger of such bountiful blessing is that it has the potential to turn into the shackle that confines us to a life of captivity. We become enslaved to the very things that were meant to bring us enjoyment. We have in our hands, the means to LITERALLY change the world - if we could just be free of what holds us back.  Through giving sacrificially of the things that we have become captive to, and more importantly, giving of ourselves, we can experience restoration of the joy and peace that gives life meaning.

Some eye-opening statistics

  • 40,000 people die from starvation every single day. That means that every time you take a breath someone takes their last because they didn't have enough food.

  • Over three billion people - almost half the world - live on less than $2.50 a day.

  • In 2007, Americans spent $10.3 billion on holiday purchases the day after Thanksgiving - the same amount needed to provide clean water and sanitation to the entire planet.

  • To satisfy the world's basic health and food requirements would cost only $13 billion - the same amount the people of the United States and the European Union spend on perfume each year.

  • One out of every eight children under the age of twelve in the U.S. goes to bed hungry every night. Sources: World Bank Development Indicators 2008, UNICEF, bloomberg dot com, volunteer now dot ca.
